The Right Way To Fill Your Rented Dumpster For Your Home Remodeling Project

Posted on

If you are doing a home remodeling project, you are going to generate a lot of waste. One of the most effective ways of dealing with all of that waste is by renting a dumpster. However, you don't just want to throw everything into the dumpster without a plan. Here are some tips and tricks on how to fill your dumpster up the right way so you make the most of your space without overfilling your dumpster.

#1 Heavy Items On the Bottom

The items that go on the bottom of your dumpster should be the heavy and bulky items. Putting these items into your dumpster first will help ensure that you have enough space for these items. As you put heavy and bulky items into your dumpster, make sure that you spread them out. You don't want them all to be on one side or your dumpster's weight will not be distributed evenly. Try to space out bulky items over the bottom of your dumpster.

#2 Break Down Cardboard

Don't throw fully assembled cardboard boxes into your dumpster. Although it is really quick to do it this way, those fully assembled cardboard boxes are going to take up a lot of room in your dumpster and will limit the space for other items significantly. Instead, take the time to break down these items so that they are smaller and flatter. Put the cardboard on top of bulky items. The cardboard will become even more compressed as items are added on top of it.

#3 Bag Up Small Items

Don't throw small items directly into your trash can. You don't want them flying everywhere when you throw them in the trash or to get blown out of the dumpster. Instead, bundle up small items together and put them in the dumpster in a tied up or sealed trash bag. Try to put the smaller bags around the larger items in your dumpster to fill out the entire space.

#4 Keep Out Hazardous Waste

There are a number of items that your home improvement project may generate that cannot go into your dumpster. For example, paints, thinners and stains are all items that cannot be disposed of in your dumpster. Ask the company that you are renting the dumpster from, such as http://www.espwaste.com, for a list of items that cannot be disposed of in the dumpster. Be sure to set these items aside and dispose of them at the proper facilities in your city or area. If you put hazardous or forbidden material inside of your dumpster and it is found, you could face steep fees for properly disposing of these materials that could have been easily avoided.
